    Apr, 27-2020

In an attempt to prevent corruption from extending its tentacles to educational institutions, the Supreme Court of India has held that a 'Deemed University' shall be included in the definition of 'University' under Section 2(c)(xi) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 ("the Act"). This implies that any person or member of any governing body of any University shall be termed as 'public servant' for the purposes of invoking the provision of the Act.
